Overview

Once your Slack account is linked, the Dema Agent can search conversations across your workspace, read channel history, write messages on your behalf, react to messages, and create or update Slack canvases. It is useful for pulling context from past discussions and sharing Dema analyses directly into a channel. The agent always acts with your own Slack identity, so it can only see and do what your Slack user already can. For an overview of everything Dema can do inside Slack — DMs, channel mentions, and installation — see Dema for Slack.

Prerequisites

  • Your Slack workspace is already connected to Dema by a Dema admin. If it is not, see the installation steps — the Link button stays disabled until the workspace is connected.
  • A Slack user account in that workspace, since the agent acts on your behalf.
If your Slack workspace restricts third-party app installs, the admin connecting the workspace may need a Slack admin to approve the Dema app first.

  1. In Dema, go to Settings → Connected accounts.
  2. On the Slack card, find the Your account row and click Link.
  3. Sign in to Slack and approve the permissions Dema requests.
  4. You are returned to Dema with your Slack account linked.
Linking your account automatically connects the Slack agent integration — there is no separate integration setup step.

Permissions Dema requests

Linking your account authorizes the following Slack user scopes. This is exactly the scope set required by Slack’s MCP server, which the agent uses to act on your behalf — and every request is bounded by what your own Slack user can already see and do.

Disconnect

Unlink your account from Settings → Connected accounts in Dema. Your stored OAuth token and account link are deleted, and the Slack agent integration is disconnected for you. A Dema admin disconnecting the workspace, or removing the app from Slack, does the same for everyone.

Troubleshooting

  • The Link button is disabled. Your workspace is not connected yet — a Dema admin needs to install the Dema app first from the Workspace row of the same page.
  • Approval screen blocked. Your workspace admin has restricted third-party app installs. Ask them to approve the Dema app.
  • Agent cannot find a message. The search scopes only cover conversations your own Slack user can already see. If the message lives in a channel you have not joined, the agent cannot reach it either.
